The Health Matters Caucus encompasses a wide range of topics due to the relationship between health and policy. A common understanding is that every policy is a fiscal policy, but it’s important to also consider how policy areas not explicitly related to health may have consequences on the health of a population. Besides topics such as health administration, healthcare and health insurance, this caucus focuses itself on public health to provide a full picture of consideration in the topic of human health. Environmental policy, foreign policy, housing, infrastructure policy and even taxation can all have major implications for the public health of our state and require careful consideration. Our range of policy subjects is not limited due to the ever-changing landscape within the political realm of policy making and constant need for new solutions to existing health related problems. It is important that we value all human life and health with serious respect while also considering the economic, political and social systems these policies exist within. The life of any person should be valued above all other things. However, we must remain pragmatic with our policy solutions and carefully consider the health and non-health related implications of any policies and evaluate them for their effectiveness, efficiency, equity, political feasibility and long-term sustainability.

A humanities caucus is a group that works to solve social problems by understanding people’s experiences and focusing on long-term solutions. Instead of quick fixes, this group aims to help communities heal and grow stronger through the bills we put out. We work to improve the lives of less fortunate people by tackling the deeper causes of issues like poverty and injustice. This group believes in solutions that respect people’s unique stories and focus on creating lasting change
