The MSL made history this weekend with its highly anticipated Fall Session, hosted by the UMBC. With 152 students from across the state registered, the event marked a significant milestone for the organization. The session showcased the collaborative spirit and legislative ingenuity of Maryland’s future leaders, leaving a lasting impression on all participants.
The two-day session was packed with legislative action, debate, and networking opportunities. A total of 34 bills were presented—16 in the House of Delegates and 18 in the Senate. For the first time in MSL’s history, bills were exchanged between the two chambers, introducing a groundbreaking level of collaboration and realism to the legislative simulation. Delegates and senators worked tirelessly to refine policies on education, healthcare, infrastructure, and emerging technologies, demonstrating a commitment to addressing the state’s most pressing issues.
We are excited to announce that our recruitment team, alongside members from the COS, recently visited Stevenson University to introduce students to the MSL. Our presentation sparked a lot of interest, and we are proud to say the visit was a great success!
Thanks to the hard work of our recruitment team and the engaging discussions, we were able to connect with enthusiastic students who are eager to join MSL. We are thrilled to welcome these new members from Stevenson into the MSL family and look forward to seeing their contributions in the upcoming legislative sessions.
The Maryland Student Legislature (MSL) Council of State is excited to announce the formation of a new Recruitment Team dedicated to enhancing representation and participation across Maryland's student communities. Spearheaded by the Governor, Lt. Governor, and a committed team of MSL members, this initiative aims to ensure that every school in Maryland is aware of the unique opportunities MSL offers. Through targeted outreach, workshops, and informational sessions, the team will engage students from diverse backgrounds, fostering an inclusive environment and empowering the next generation of leaders to make a positive impact on their communities and beyond.
This summer, the MSL hosted an unforgettable event at Six Flags America, where sixteen students came together for a day filled with thrilling rides, fun, and camaraderie. The event offered an incredible opportunity for MSL members to bond outside the usual legislative setting, enjoying the excitement and exhilaration of one of Maryland’s top amusement parks. Participants not only had a blast on the heart-pounding roller coasters and relaxing water rides but also strengthened their connections with fellow MSL members, fostering a sense of community and teamwork. This summer outing perfectly blended leisure and networking, allowing students to unwind while building lasting friendships and reinforcing their commitment to the MSL's mission. We are grateful to everyone who attended and made this event a success, and we look forward to more exciting activities in the future.
Students from the UMD, UMBC, and AACC recently visited the State House in Annapolis, Maryland, for an educational and memorable experience. During their visit, they had the unique opportunity to witness a spectacular solar eclipse, observing the celestial event with special eclipse glasses outside the historic State House. In addition to this awe-inspiring sight, the students observed live floor proceedings, gaining firsthand insight into the legislative process as they watched legislators debate and vote on various bills. Engaging discussions with state legislators and officials provided further educational value, offering a deeper understanding of public service challenges and responsibilities. This visit combined the wonder of natural phenomena with practical learning about state governance, leaving students with a greater appreciation for civic engagement and the workings of state government.
